There is a new addition to the endangered species list—a species called ‘job’! Jobs are rapidly vanishing daily all over the globe. The media reports critical statistics and news of virtually thousands of job cuts and the future forecast is predicted to be bleak too.
Blame the ‘crunch’. The crunch? Yes, you remember the recession don’t you? How can one forget? Thousands brought to the streets. Rich became poor and multibillion dollar businesses almost brought to the verge of collapse.
Though it is hard to forecast how the coming years will pan out—stuttering job growth, a slow economy and troubled property markets all point a finger on the ‘crunch’. The only piece of good news is that hiring continues and there are still jobs out there for people because certain industries continue to thrive even in these troubled times.
Some employers have already hired full-time and permanent workers in the year of 2008. The employers are careful and expect a slow but steady hiring process to keep up with finances, vacancies and the economy.
The most fatal mistake which most people make is changing their jobs or career paths during downturns. In most of the times this is a career crippling choice. It is seen that on the contrary its healthier to transfer one’s skills to a healthier industry when the scope is available. Industries as manufacturing, retail, finance, real estate and technology are highly impregnable in times of the recession but there are certain sectors which are virtually “99.99% recession-shielded” even in the times of the ‘crunch’!
One must always remember that it is not the case that only people with industry-based skills will be in demand. For example schools not only need teachers and coaches, they need administrators, information handlers, accountants etc. Even various other firms always need marketing professionals and computer programmers. These jobs never die out and are available most of the time. Thus, a wide spectrum of choices is, available in such fields when everything else around, is collapsing.
Thus we come to the question- Is your job crunch-proof? The industries of Education, Energy, Environmental sector, Health care, Security, Transport, Government sectors, Information security managers etc are thriving areas of opportunity offering secure positions in these times of crisis. These sectors are mandatory to be maintained to lead a normal and secure human life—so these industries are always safe and booming. So take a look—do some research, and get secured.
